Edin Dzeko in Manchester City's sights as potential Robinho replacement

Robinho's likely £20 million move to Barcelona in January will leave Manchester City needing another striker to fulfil manager Mark Hughes' ambition of maintaining two world-class players in every position and Bosnia's Edin Dzeko is the latest in their sights. [LNB]The 23-year-old Wolfsburg striker resisted a move to AC Milan last summer and signed up to the Bundesliga champions until 2013, so the winter transfer window will not be the opportune time to wrest him from Wolfsburg, particularly if the German club have secured qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League, as expected. [LNB] Focus of attention: Dzeko in Champions League action with Wolfsburg[LNB] Dzeko scored 26 goals in the Bundesliga last season, second only to his Wolfsburg strike partner Grafite, and to capture the Bosnian City would have to match the £20m fee they are likely to receive for Robinho. [LNB]Barca are confident their wooing of Robinho will be rewarded in January, with manager Pep Guardiola a long-time admirer of the Brazilian. However, they have Ajax's Luis Suarez marked down as an alternative if negotiations do falter. [LNB]Robinho's arrival at the Nou Camp will not stop the European champions turning their attentions to securing Javier Mascherano and Cesc Fabregas in the summer. [LNB]In fact, Barca are hopeful they may even secure Liverpool's Argentina midfielder this winter, encouraged by talk of the imminent financial crisis at Liverpool.[LNB] CHARLES SALE: Crocked Dean Ashton to seek FA's millionsAdebayor's back for Manchester City with a taste for the unexpectedManchester City 3 Burnley 3: Kevin McDonald scores late leveller to earn Burnley a point in Premier League thrillerMANCHESTER CITY NEWS AND VIEWS FROM AROUND THE NET[LNB]  Explore more:People:MARK HUGHES, Cesc Fabregas, Javier Mascherano, Edin Dzeko, Pep Guardiola, RobinhoPlaces:Barcelona, Liverpool, Bosnia, Argentina
