De Jong's early warning for United

FIVE STAR SHOW: Nedum Onuoha celebrates his goal against BirminghamNigel de Jong vowed to go for Manchester United's jugular in next week's crunch derby. The ferocious Blues midfielder says City will be focused entirely on earning the points to bolster their own Champions League chase. But he added that it would be "nice" to damage the Reds' title ambitions at the same time. City revved up for the Eastlands clash with a 5-1 crushing of Birmingham, taking their goals tally to 14 in the last three matches. They now have a four-point cushion over main fourth place rivals Tottenham, who play their game in hand on Wednesday in the north London derby with Arsenal at White Hart Lane. But de Jong says all City eyes are now fixed firmly on next Saturday. "United need the points to catch Chelsea and they know Arsenal are behind them," said the Dutch ace, who stood in at late notice when Patrick Vieira was ruled out. "They have to secure their place in the top two. We need those points, even though Liverpool drew. "But it's a derby and there is always more at stake. It would be nice to damage United's title chances but we have to focus on our own goal. Anything else is extra from our point of view." The Blues also want revenge for the injury-time 4-3 league defeat at Old Trafford and the late, late Wayne Rooney goal which knocked them out of the Carling Cup in January. "This time we will go right to the end - I promise!" De Jong added. Will City win the derby? Have your say. | Submit Comments| Comments (105)| PrintWhat's this?
