De Jong looking to prove a point

Manchester City star Nigel De Jong admits he cannot wait to prove his club team-mates wrong after they wrote Holland off in the World Cup.[LNB] De Jong did not mention any names, but the talented Dutchman admitted a number of City's string had mocked Holland's chances in the tournament.[LNB]Whilst he has shone on the international scene, his attributes are somewhat overshadowed in a star-studded City dressing room which lists players such as Carlos Tevez, Emanuel Adebayor and Roque Santa Cruz.[LNB]But, whilst they are enjoying the tournament from afar, De Jong may well have the last laugh as he prepares to take to the pitch against Spain having seen his side to the World Cup final.[LNB]"The lads back at City were writing me off even before the tournament, saying Holland couldn't win it. I can't give you any names - but they know who they are!" he told The People.[LNB]"And you will see what happens if we win the World Cup! It would be a great boost for me to go back to City with a World Cup winners' medal in my bag. It would be a great feeling.[LNB]"If we manage to beat Spain I can promise I am going to have a lot of fun with a lot of guys back at City. Walking back into the training ground will be a big moment if Holland have won."[LNB]Holland made the final twice before in the World Cup, albeit some time ago in 1974 and 1978.[LNB]They fell on both occasions to West Germany and then Argentina and have since struggled to replicate that form.[LNB]"I think they thought we couldn't win because of what has happened to us before at major finals," said De Jong.[LNB]"Everyone has the same idea about Holland - we play nice football but we never win anything.[LNB]"In Euro 2004 we were beating everyone and then we couldn't get past the semi-finals when people thought we might win it."[LNB]He added: "We know it will be hard to beat Spain. They have so many great players but we have a system that can cope with their style and cause them problems."
