De Jong in Milan to discuss move

Manchester City's Nigel de Jong has flown to Italy for talks with AC Milan over a permanent deal as he searchs for regular first-team football. The Holland international has slipped down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium and looks set to try his luck in Serie A.

Preliminary discussions are believed to have been underway for several days and the official Milan TV channel announced on Thursday: "De Jong is on his way to Milan. The medical will be performed tomorrow." De Jong has played twice for the Premier League champions this season but now finds himself competing with summer arrival Jack Rodwell. Since signing from Hamburg in 2009, the 27-year-old has played 137 times for the Citizens and scored two goals.
