Dani Alves close to new Barcelona deal as Manchester City track Brazil defender

Manchester City target Dani Alves is hoping to agree a new contract with Barcelona sooner rather than later.

Alves' future has been the subject of speculation for most of the campaign as his current deal runs out at the end of next season.

Chelsea have also been linked with the 27-year-old Brazil international but Alves said: 'The leadership of the club are trying to find an optimal solution that would satisfy both parties. I hope that the problem will be solved as soon as possible.'

Barcelona are reported to be keeping a close eye on Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel as a potential replacement.
