The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season loan at Madrid and has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Real boss Jose Mourinho.
But their star player Ronaldo believes that Madrid do not need another striker.
'We don't need a striker': Cristiano Ronaldo (right) played with Emmanuel Adebayor (left) last season
Speaking in Beijing on the club's pre-season tour, Ronaldo said: 'I don't think that we need to sign another forward. We are happy with the line-up as it already is.'
Adebayor came into the side last season with Gonzalo Higuain out injured and Karim Benzema misfiring but the duo are now fit and in form going into the new campaign.
Mourinho prefers to play with just one central striker and given that he has already signed Jose Maria Callejon this summer, a deal for Adebayor looks increasingly unlikely.
On tour: Real are currently in China
Adebayor is desperate to leave City after falling out with manager Roberto Mancini and being forced to train with the reserve team while the club were on their tour of the US.
He may now be forced to look elsewhere with Tottenham and Bayern Munich being mooted as potential suitors.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo is hoping Madrid can hit the ground running this season and gain an early advantage over Barcelona with victory in the Spanish Cup later this month.
'It's an important match because it's the beginning of the season so we want to start well - it could give us vital impetus going into the campaign,' he added.
