Cook aiming to be best

Manchester City chief executive Garry Cook has hit back at detractors who believe the club are aiming too high.[LNB] His comments come as expectations have gone up a notch at Eastlands since the mega-rich Abu Dhabi owners took over.[LNB]But Cook says it is right to have ambition - and he is aiming on taking on city rivals Manchester United to be the best.[LNB]He told the Manchester Evening News: "People say our ambitions are too high but I don't see a problem with having the ambition to be the best in England and then Europe.[LNB]Success culture"It is about building a culture of success here - not one of survival.[LNB]"I want to be competing with United one day and I have no reason to think we won't be."[LNB]While Cook is not expecting instant success, he believes the club have a solid base and he is preparing for a busy summer.[LNB]Speaking on the club's end-of-season DVD, he added: "Was it a great season? No it wasn't.[LNB]Foundations"Was is a good season? I think the second half was good and we laid those foundations I was talking about.[LNB]"Now we must work hard all summer to add strength to the club. It is the best time to do transfer business because January is hard.[LNB]"Summer is vital preparation time for the new season and unless you have that it impacts against your capabilities at the start of the season.[LNB]"For the first time in three years this club is going into the pre-season with the same people at the helm and we feel good about that."[LNB]
