City target Lucio swoop

Skysports.com understands that officials from Manchester City have travelled to Germany in a bid to push through a deal for Bayern Munich defender Lucio. The cash-rich Eastlands outfit are in the market for a new central defender as they look to establish themselves as a force in domestic and continental competition. Chelsea flatly rejected a second approach from City for England skipper John Terry on Friday, with Mark Hughes now turning his attention to other targets. A City delegation have jetted out to the German capital in a bid to secure the services of Bayern's Brazil international captain. Lucio is reported to be considering a move away from the Allianz Arena as he is not guaranteed a first-team place. New coach Louis van Gaal insists that he does not want to see the powerful centre-back move on, but City have the funds to test his resolve. Hughes has already spent big to land striker Roque Santa Cruz and midfielder Gareth Barry this summer before turning his attentions to his defence, with Lucio now understood to be the club's top target.
