City target £20m Eto'o to spearhead bid for silverware

Manchester City aim to establish a reputation as a club with serious ambitions by making Samuel Eto'o one of their main summer buys for £20million. Long-suffering supporters have been buoyed by talk of billionaire Arabs pouring fortunes into City, but so far this season's signings have failed to make any impact. British record transfer Robinho struggled again after showing early promise in the 2-0 defeat at Arsenal and the spectacular collapse of the attempt to sign Kaka from AC Milan did little to enhance their standing, even on the domestic stage. But there is now a determined impetus in the Eastlands boardroom and they are hoping the arrival of Barcelona star Eto'o on a £120,000-a-week deal would inspire a major challenge for the game's top prizes. Top clubs all over Europe have been alerted by speculation that the 28-year-old Cameroon striker has an uncertain future at Barcelona because of his wage demands and a highlypublicised rift with coach Pep Guardiola.
