Shaun Wright-Phillips and Carlos Tevez ensured Manchester City avoided a Carling Cup upset in a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.[LNB]Joleon Lescott made his debut in a full-strength City line-up, but Neil Warnock's Championship side were on top at the interval having almost gone ahead through Darren Ambrose and Freddie Sears.[LNB]But Wright-Phillips fired the visitors ahead five minutes into the second half. Stephen Ireland fed the ball across the pitch to the diminutive winger, who had escaped the attentions of Clint Hill for once and hit a fierce drive which beat Julian Speroni inside his near post.[LNB]And Tevez headed his first goal in City colours to make it two and see Mark Hughes' side through.[LNB]The Argentinian forward tip-toed in between the centre-halves and nodded Wright-Phillips' corner past Speroni.
