City in talks for Bentley

Sky Sports News understands that Manchester City are in talks with Tottenham over a deal to sign David Bentley. Bentley's Spurs future remains unclear after slipping out of favour under manager Harry Redknapp, who criticised him after his recent arrest for drink driving. The 25-year-old has played just five minutes of Premier League football this term, although he played the full 90 minutes of their Carling Cup win at Doncaster. The ex-Blackburn winger had been linked with Aston Villa, but it now seems that City are leading the chase for his signature. This is despite Mark Hughes declaring City's summer spending spree had finished following their big-money capture of Joleon Lescott. Spurs are reportedly interested in City winger Martin Petrov, but it remains unclear whether the Bulgarian is part of the deal that would bring Bentley to Eastlands.
