Manchester City look to be making strides towards signing the 23-year-old Hoffenheim midfielder Roberto Firmino with preliminary talks reported to be under way.

The £20million-rated midfielder would be a great prize and seems to be ready to make the next step after thriving at the small Bundesliga outfit with several of Europe’s top clubs monitoring developments. The player had the opportunity to move to Borussia Dortmund twelve months ago but chose to stay loyal to Hoffenheim.

The Mirror cites Neil Moxley of the Sunday People as the source of the original report and with Firmino joining the international setup in 2014 it seems the player could prove to be a future star in the making.

Firmino signed for Hoffenheim in December 2010 after a couple of seasons with Figueirense where he has gone on to make 148 appearances and scored some 51 goals, picking-up the Breakthrough of the Season honour for the 2013-14 season.
