City bow out despite dramatic win

Sporting Lisbon held off a dramatic Manchester City fightback to edge the English side out of the Europa League on away goals after a 3-2 win for City levelled the scores 3-3 on aggregate.

City appeared in disarray as they fell 3-0 behind on aggregate following goals from Mathias Fernandez and Ricky van Wolfswinkel in the first half of the second leg of their last-16 tie.

Yet City were as good in the second half as they were bad in the first, hitting back through two Sergio Aguero goals and a Mario Balotelli penalty to fall agonisingly short at the Etihad Stadium.
