Cannavaro plans 'project'

Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro wants to end his career with a significant 'project', according to the player's agent. The Italy centre-back is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a free transfer to Manchester City, Tottenham and AC Milan. Cannavaro, 35, has previously denied that he is looking to leave Primera Liga giants Real and has rejected reports of contact with Milan. But the latest claims of his representative, Gaetano Fedele, regarding a 'project' could hint at an interest in City, who are an emerging force under billionaire owner Sheikh Mansour. "Fabio wants to aim for an important project as he nears the end of his career, one that I would call phenomenal," Fedele told Republica. Fedele also insists that Cannavaro will not follow the lead of David Beckham, who moved to Los Angeles Galaxy before agreeing a time-share deal with Milan. "This is what Cannavaro wants to do," he added. "Not like Beckham who made sacrifices to move to America before going to Milan." Fedele is also adamant that there has been no contact with any Italian club, despite an understanding that World Cup-winner Cannavaro is keen on a return to his native Naples. "Never have I spoken with any Italian clubs," Fedele said.
