Middlesbrough will receive a £1million windfall from Manchester City if winger Adam Johnson forces his way into the England squad.[LNB] The 22-year-old, who joined Manchester City in a £7m switch from Teesside in January, has caught the eye of England boss Fabio Capello and is being tipped to make a late run for his World Cup finals squad.[LNB]A further £1m payment from City will be due if Johnson is capped at senior level.[LNB]The midfielder has made the step-up from the Championship to the Premier League in fine style after contributing 12 goals to Boro's promotion campaign.[LNB]Manager Gordon Strachan told the Evening Gazette: "Adam gave us a lot of goals and a lot of assists, but there was a danger we were becoming a one-man team.[LNB]"I felt that we needed to become a more rounded team if we were going to move forward as a club, so it was a very reluctant sale, even if the money on offer was very good.[LNB]"It was a great opportunity for Adam and it was a chance for Middlesbrough to use the money to make us a more rounded team."[LNB]Strachan recruited Scott McDonald, Barry Robson, Willo Flood, Chris Killen and Lee Miller, as well as loanees Stephen McManus and Kyle Naughton, in January as he attempted to rebuild his squad.
