Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has warned opponents that Argentinian star Sergio Aguero has not yet hit his best form.
Aguero has made a big impact at the Etihad Stadium since his £38million club record move from Atletico Madrid, scoring 13 goals in 19 appearances. The 23-year-old underlined his class with a technically brilliant opener in the Barclays Premier League leaders' 5-1 thrashing of Norwich on Saturday but Kompany thinks there is much more to come.
The Belgian said: "If you look at what has happened naturally for all the strikers here, we have only seen the best of Mario (Balotelli) this year, and only seen the best of Edin (Dzeko) this year. It's the same with David Silva, so it might be next year that we see the real Sergio. Maybe he has got another level on him."
He added: "That's a great prospect for us, that players like Samir (Nasri), Sergio and Gael (Clichy), who are in their first year at this club and even though they have been performing exceptionally well, all still have another level to go to. That's the great thing about this team."
Kompany has certainly been impressed by how quickly Aguero has adapted to life at the club off the field.
The 25-year-old said: "Sergio makes a massive effort to come to terms with the language and it's great to see when a player makes that effort. English is the language everyone understands and it makes things so much easier for the team.
"Sergio is not only a great player - he's also a great guy."
City have swept almost all before them on the domestic front and are five points clear at the top of the table having scored a remarkable 48 goals in 14 games. They have only dropped points twice, being forced to settle for draws at Fulham and Liverpool, but Kompany claims the team are still to hit their stride.
He said: "With us still learning to know each other better - and we are still a little bit behind on certain things - and learning a different style to what we played last year, there is still a lot to come from our team. The most important thing to stress is that we just stay calm.
"There is no reason to get carried away - it's a long season. This team is not just a load of great players. We are in this position today because we have great spirit and a willingness to not get beat, and that is important."
