Barcelona have rejected interest from Manchester United and Chelsea in the past – now reigning English champions Manchester City are keen to reunite the Spanish midfielder with former team mate Yaya Toure.

According to the Mirror; Roberto Mancini has identified Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets as Manchester City's big-name signing.

Mancini is a known long-term admirer of the Spaniard and is lining up a sensational bid for Busquets as early as this January. Mancini is keen on improving his midfield – as summer signing Jack Rodwell has failed to live up to his price tag so far this season – as well as his performances in a Manchester City shirt coming under some scrutiny from home fans.

However – with Barcelona having rejected Manchester United and Chelsea in the past, City will have a difficult job getting there man. The Barcelona midfielder is believed to have a £120million release clause in his contract – but Mancini hopes to get his man for around £55million. As well as giving the star a lucrative contract that will see him on par with top earners such as Yaya Toure, Carlos Tevez, and Sergio Aguero.

Busquets has a deep love for Barcelona and his team mates. He is a Catalan boy – raised in a town just outside the city, and it will take a huge amount of persuasion to try and bring the Barcelona star to the Etihad.
