Tottenham are understood to have made Agbonlahor who scored 16 goals in all competitions last season one of their main targets, but Villa have stepped in quickly to dismiss suggestions that the 23-year-old will be allowed to leave.
Meanwhile, according to reports that have emerged in Belgium, Martin O'Neill, the Villa manager, has made an £8 million bid for Anderlecht midfielder Mbark Boussoufa.
The 25-year-old, who started his career at the Ajax academy and spent three years at Chelsea as a teenager, was recently named the best player in Belgium for the second year running, scoring 16 goals last season.
Anderlecht are said to be holding out for £10m.
It is possible that O'Neill is making plans for bringing in a goalscoring midfielder in case James Milner decides to agree to a much-touted move to Manchester City when he returns from international duty at the World Cup.
