Andriy Shevchenko threatens Manchester City's Europa League dream - Vincent Kompany

Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has highlighted subduing Andriy Shevchenko as being key to overhauling Dynamo Kiev's two-goal lead in the Europa League. [LNB]Once one of the most feared strikers in Europe, Shevchenko's career hurtled downhill during a dreadful spell at Chelsea. He did not improve on returning to AC Milan for a season on loan. [LNB]However, it does appear his arrival back in Kiev two years ago has triggered a change in desire for the 34-year-old former Ukraine skipper. [LNB] Back in form: Andriy Shevchenko scored against City in the first leg last week[LNB]Shevchenko scored the opener in his side's 2-0 victory over City a week ago and is clearly now a man the Blues have to watch very carefully if they are to stand a chance of reaching the last eight. [LNB]'Shevchenko seemed to be leading by example,' said Kompany. 'He was not just captain because of what he achieved in the past, he was one of the best players in their team.'[LNB] Kiev did look perfectly set up to hit City on the counter-attack, raising obvious question marks about the hosts' ability to drag themselves back into the tie without conceding an away goal that could effectively kill them off. [LNB] Mountain to climb: City trail 2-0 after the first leg in Ukraine[LNB]'They caught us by surprise last week,' admitted Kompany. 'We knew they were a good team and we knew their strengths and weaknesses. But it was an away game in Ukraine. The conditions are very different and there was a lot of travelling. [LNB]'You have to adapt to that for a start. When you go onto the pitch, you don't know exactly how it is going to be. They did their job very well and we were unfortunate to have a bad day. [LNB]'But if nothing else, it will give everyone a good game to watch tomorrow because there will be plenty of stuff happening, I am sure of it.'[LNB] Milner set for City return in crunch Europa League clash at EastlandsTorres: I joined Chelsea not United or City out of respect for LiverpoolMan City feel Feyenoord's fury over pursuit of teenage Dutch starletWright-Phillips believes City can rescue Europa League tie against Kiev  [LNB]  Explore more:People: Vincent Kompany, Andriy Shevchenko Places: Milan, Europe
