AJ: Exciting times ahead for City
Adam Johnson says he is excited about Manchester City's prospects for the new season, but knows he will have a fight for a first-team place.[LNB] Johnson, who joined the club last Janaury from Middlesbrough, impressed for City in the second half of last season.[LNB]The 22-year-old returned to pre-season training on Monday and he is ready to push on next season after establishing himself in Roberto Mancini's plans.[LNB]City have been the biggest spenders in the transfer market so far this summer with the signings of Jerome Boateng, David Silva and Yaya Toure and Johnson knows competition for places will be fierce.[LNB]However, the winger is ready to fight for his place and is confident the new season will be a successful one for City.[LNB]"I've been looking forward to coming back - I didn't really want the season to end because it was going so well and I was in good form," said Johnson.[LNB]"But it's a new season, we're in Europe, and everybody's excited about what's going to happen. It just seems to get more exciting by the day with the new signings.[LNB]"It's a great place to play. That's where the club are going, we want to win things and progress. It's going to be great to see who else comes in the next couple of weeks.[LNB]"There's a big squad here now but there's also a lot of games, and everybody can't play in every game - there's Europe as well as the two cups.[LNB]"We need a good squad with strong people on the bench. There will obviously be changes for different games and I'm ready for that. It's going to be exciting times. I can't wait."[LNB]Johnson insists he has overcome the disappointment of missing out on England's World Cup squad after being omitted from Fabio Capello's final 23-man selection.[LNB]"I had a really good summer. I was obviously disappointed not to go to the World Cup but I was pleased with how the season had gone," added Johnson.
