La Liga strugglers Malaga have parted company with Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira just nine games into the new season.
The 64-year-old penned a three-year deal at La Rosaleda in the summer, but the club's chiefs have opted to dismiss the former Porto manager following Sunday's 2-1 home defeat to Real Sociedad that left them in the relegation zone with just seven points from a possible 27 on the board.
A statement on the club's official website said: "In a meeting today in the offices of La Rosaleda stadium, Malaga football club have informed coach Jesualdo Ferreira and his coaching team of the intention to terminate their contracts with the club.
"The coach of the second team, Rafa Gil, will take charge of first-team matters from this afternoon until the club appoint a new coach for the first-team squad.
"During the amicable meeting, the Portuguese coach expressed his belief of being able to fulfil the objectives set for the current season, but taking into account team's start in the league, the club have decided to inform the Portuguese coach of their intention to search for an alternative to lead the team.
"At the end of the meeting, both Malaga football club and Jesualdo Ferreira and his coaching team have wished each other the best of luck in their respective projects and professional careers."
