Simpson applauds Silkmen character

Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson felt his side showed real character after the 2-2 draw with Accrington. The Silkmen opened the scoring through Hamza Bencherif but looked to be heading for defeat after Andrew Procter and a penalty from Phil Edwards put Stanley ahead. But substitute Vinny Mukendi rescued a point in stoppage time.Simpson said: "In the first half we equipped ourselves quite well.In recent weeks Accrington have been three or four nil up against teams at half-time and you can see that they've got some very good footballers, but on Thursday we worked on some long throws as they're quite a small team and it worked out in our favour for the first goal."But they scored a magnificent strike to equalise and then I thought the penalty was a bit unlucky. We've had a lot to face this last 12 months as a team and as a football club and I thought what more can they throw at us and then it got worse."Carl Tremarco was booked for the penalty and then he lost his control and had a go at the linesman saying he must have been got at at half-time and we were down to 10 men but we showed some guts and some real character and we fought back and it's a magnificent point."There's still a long, long way to go this season and I think it's going to come down to the wire, we're running on empty. We're mentally drained as well as physically drained."
