Struggling Macclesfield Town have sacked manager Ian Brightwell and handed Keith Alexander the task of keeping the club in the Football League.
Brightwell and his assistant Asa Hartford have left the club with immediate effect, after five defeats in the last six games left the Silkmen 22nd in the League Two table.
The rookie manager was placed in charge last summer following the departure of Paul Ince, but won just six of his 34 league games at the helm.
Meanwhile, Alexander has been drafted into Moss Rose on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
The former Lincoln City and Peterborough United manager was recently sacked as director of football at fellow League Two strugglers Bury.
"It is no secret that results of late haven't been what we have wanted," chairman Mike Rance told the club's official website.
"With other sides picking up points around us in the table, we felt a change was needed and in doing so now, we wanted to give the new man as much time as possible to make an impact.
"At times this season we have played some excellent football and shown we are able to compete with the best the league has to offer.
"But it has been evident in recent weeks that the consistency has been lacking.
"Ian was offered the opportunity to work with Keith as his number two but declined the new role, a decision we understand.
"We would of course like to thank Ian and Asa for their hard work and wish them both well in the future."
