Silkmen target new striker

Macclesfield Town manager Keith Alexander has turned his attention towards bringing a new striker to Moss Rose after watching his new side draw 1-1 with fellow strugglers Notts County.

The result leaves the Silkmen only two points clear of the relegation zone while the joint top scorers - Martin Gritton and Francis Green - have scored only eight times each.

The former Lincoln City boss said: "I was pleased with our work-rate. We worked very hard, but it's obvious we need a goalscorer.

"Considering we've only been at it two days it was a good display but we've got to keep the ball better and we gave it away far too often.

"However if we play with that commitment and enthusiasm we'll be okay but like all teams in the predicament we do need a goalscorer."
