Macclesfield Town boss Keith Alexander hailed his side's performance in their 2-0 Carling Cup first round win over Championship side Blackpool.
Goals from Shaun Brisley and Martin Gritton gave the Silkmen a famous victory and put a smile on Alexander's face after the 4-0 defeat at Shrewsbury Town on the opening day of the League Two season.
He told the club's official website: "After Saturday's performance we had words, first on Sunday and then on Monday and the players have worked very hard.
"I couldn't have asked for a better response from the lads. It was a case of going back to basics and ensuring we worked hard and won our challenges.
"I was delighted with the way we competed, especially when clearing our lines and at times I thought we played some lovely football when going forward."
