Evans escapes boss' wrath

Macclesfield Town manager Keith Alexander refused to condemn Gareth Evans even after the striker was dismissed for a rash challenge on Adam Tann during the 1-1 draw with Notts County.

It was the 20-year-old's second red card in three matches, but Alexander thought the tackle was completely out of character.

Alexander said: "It was a case of youthful enthusiasm.

"Gareth's been at the club a long time and I've never seen him put in a challenge in anger."
