Brown departure key - Simpson
Manager Gary Simpson was left rueing the early loss of Nat Brown in the wake of Macclesfield's 2-1 defeat to Chesterfield. The centre-back had to be replaced in the 34th minute after bravely hurling himself at the feet of Jack Lester. That did not stop the Silkmen taking the lead through Lewis Chalmers' penalty, although that proved irrelevant as goals from Craig Davies and Danny Whitaker earned the Spireites the points.Simpson said: "We came with a gameplan and it worked up to a point. Losing Brownie (Nat Brown) didn't help us but we got the goal and could have added to that to be honest."We kept going and hit the inside of a post. They are top of the league and no-one expected us to get anything but I thought we acquitted ourselves quite well and gave it a good go."He (Brown) is one of our more experienced players and the organisational part of it and bringing the lads together, we missed him for that."
