Brightwell takes on Macc role

Ian Brightwell has been named as caretaker boss of League Two's basement side Macclesfield Town following the sacking of Brian Horton on Sunday. The final straw for the club's board came on Saturday when the Silkmen lost 1-0 at Hereford United to extend their winless sequence to 12 matches and they are already stranded, seven points adrift of safety, at the foot of the table. As a result of Horton's departure, former Manchester City, Coventry, Stoke, Port Vale and Walsall player, Brightwell, will step up from his current reserve-team coach's role to try and improve the first-team's results while a permanent replacement is sought. Brightwell followed Horton to Moss Rose from Vale Park in July 2004 and, in addition to his coaching role, is still registered as a player at the club and has featured in four games this term.
