Alexander expects Yeo to retire

Macclesfield Town manager Keith Alexander has confirmed that veteran striker Simon Yeo will retire at the end of the season.

The former Lincoln City boss has also promised sweeping changes to his playing staff after being dismayed at the way the Silkmen's campaign petered out.

He said: "Simon Yeo looks like he's going to retire. I'd like to keep him, he's a very good influence on the younger lads as well as a good player.

"But he's out of contract this summer and the decision has to be his. I'm already planning for next season without him. He's an excellent professional and we'll miss that around the squad as well as anything else.

"We need a clean slate and we need to get better quality players in. A lot of the players did very well at times but we need them to be consistent, a lot more consistent.

"I've said that there will be a lot who go in summer and my opinion hasn't changed.

"I'm disappointed with the season as a whole, obviously. I set my standards higher than finishing in the bottom four or five.

"It's not something I want to be associated with and doesn't live up to the standards I set for myself."
