The visitors were forced to defend for their lives in the first half as Vale piled forward.[LNB]Recent loan signing Craig Davies, making his full debut for the hosts, was thwarted on several occasions by Jon Brain. And the former Vale stopper also made a fine save to keep out a 20-yard effort from Marc Richards.[LNB]Macclesfield made a better fist of it at the start of the second half with Ricky Sappleton and Lee Bell finally providing a threat.[LNB]But Davies was inches away from opening the scoring in the 58th minute when he beat Nat Brown with a terrific piece of skill and then cracked a shot against the bar.[LNB]Neither side seriously threatened a breakthrough after that, with the visitors retreating back into their shell and Vale unable to find a way through.[LNB][LNB]
