Spireites hit four past Silkmen

Wade Small, Jack Lester, Jamie Lowry and Donal McDermott punished a feeble Macclesfield team to wrap up the points by half-time. Chesterfield got off to a flyer when Macclesfield were left looking in vain for an offside flag as Small ran through the middle to fire low past Jose Veiga in the fourth minute. Derek Niven tested Veiga with two long-range efforts and Jack Lester had a drive that flashed just wide as Chesterfield swarmed all over the visitors in the opening 25 minutes. Only a well-timed challenge by Shaun Brisley stopped Lester scoring in the 26th minute but the striker celebrated his second of the season six minutes later when a Small header hit him and went in. The game was over when a poor clearance by Paul Morgan allowed Lowry to drive in his sixth of the campaign from 12 yards in the 38th minute. And Small set up McDermott to finish superbly on the stroke of half-time. Only a brilliant save by Veiga denied Gregor Robertson before Hamza Bencherif gave the visiting fans something to cheer with a cool finish in the 79th minute.
