Simpson still on look-out

Macclesfield boss Gary Simpson is to assess several trialists as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new season. Simpson has already signed Tyrone Barnett, Richard Butcher and Lewis Chalmers during the summer and is continuing to work hard to add more new faces. He said: "We've invited a few in for a trial and one of these is another young midfielder who I have heard nothing but good things about. "Everyone I speak to has positive things to say about him and so I have put an offer out to him. But as ever he has had other offers so it's up to him to decide." Simpson also wants another goalkeeper and a forward, adding: "I've got a keeper coming in for us to have a look at. I don't really want to name him yet but he has been with a Championship club and looks a good prospect. "There's a striker I'm interested in who has been with another League Two side for a few years. He's a big, strong, quick player and would give us another option up front."
