Simpson looking for loan additions

Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson is hoping to enter the loan market to strengthen his defensive options after his side were beaten 4-2 at home by Crewe in the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy. The Silkmen, who had Alex defender Patrick Ada to thank for both of their goals, were outclassed after the break, with Dave Artell and Joel Grant scoring the crucial goals after a Colin Daniel own goal and Lee Bell penalty had twice put the visitors ahead. Simpson said: "With the millions they have spent on their Academy and the effort they put into bringing players through, they are bound to have some very good individuals. But I didn't feel we were struggling to keep in the game. "We've got real problems in defence. Izak Reid is out with a groin strain, Carl Tremarco has got a strain in his stomach, while we've lost Shaun Brisley for four months. In an ideal world I would have liked to have rested Paul Morgan and Nat Brown, but with our defence at the moment I just can't do that. "We've got no money to spend so I've gone out with my begging bowl and we'll see what we can do this week. In the next two to three days I feel I've got to bring in one or two players." Simpson added: "I wanted to win. It's a local derby and we want to progress in all competitions, but if in the long run it is perceived that we've benefited from not going through then so be it."
