Simpson keen on Hamshaw

Macclesfield boss Gary Simpson believes trialist Matt Hamshaw could provide the spark his side was missing last season. Midfielder Hamshaw is looking for a new club after leaving Notts County and impressed Simpson with his performance in Tuesday's 5-0 friendly win at Newcastle Town. Hamshaw scored twice to leave Simpson with much to think about as he ponders whether to offer him a contract at the Moss Rose. Simpson said: "He didn't really play a lot of football last season at Notts County and I know he wants to get playing again. "He certainly took his goals well and put a great ball into the box. That's perhaps what we were missing last season. "So if it goes well, and he buys into what we are looking to achieve here at the Moss in terms of work ethic and style of play, then hopefully we can sit down and talk in more detail with a view to tabling an offer."
