Silkmen to appeal fine

Macclesfield are to appeal the £9,000 fine they were hit with by the Football Association following their ugly brawl with Wycombe on February 26. Chairboys defender Dave Winfield was dismissed during the scuffle which saw every outfield Wycombe player involved, as well as Silkmen duo Ricky Sappleton and Emile Sinclair sent off. Macclesfield were charged with failure to ensure that they controlled their players and pleaded guilty at a private hearing where the FA imposed the fine. Wycombe were handed an identical fine and Macclesfield also fined every player involved, as well as boss Gary Simpson and his management team, yet they claim the financial penalty from the FA is too severe. A statement from the Silkmen said: "The appeal will not relate to the incident or to the breach of the Rule 20E (a) which the club genuinely regrets, especially in the context of our good disciplinary record under the leadership of our current manager. "It is intended solely to question the scale of the financial sanction which, in the context of the size of the club, is extremely challenging."
