Silkmen chief makes fan plea

Just 1,125 fans turned out at Moss Rose on Saturday for the 1-1 draw against Barnet - considerably the lowest in the Football League, with Dagenham versus Chesterfield attracting the second lowest crowd of 2,034. The Silkmen have averaged 2,597 over their four previous home fixtures and Saturday's attendance is a worry for Rance, although he accepts external factors such as the credit crunch and the good weather will have played a part. "The gate on Saturday is a real concern," he told the Macclesfield Express. "It was by far the lowest gate we've had for a Saturday game in the Football League. "The mixture of youth and talent in the current squad really are playing with some style. The new recruits we have brought in over the summer makes up the most impressive squad we've seen at the Moss for quite a while. "And Keith has added another piece to the puzzle in the shape of Ricky Sappleton, who has set tongues wagging with his two goals in two games."
