The Mariners had the first two chances, Peter Sweeney seeing a free-kick tipped wide by Jon Brain in the fourth minute before Ivorian striker Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro bundled the ball into the net but fouled Carl Tremarco in the process.[LNB]Macc should have scored in the 23rd minute but Emile Sinclair fell over his own feet to waste an open goal opportunity.[LNB]Junior Daniel then crashed a free-kick off the upright for the Silkmen before Mariners midfielder Michael Coulson saw a 30-yard shot tipped onto the crossbar by Brain.[LNB]Grimsby were desperately unlucky not to grab a winner in the 82nd minute when substitute Adam Proudlock lashed a low drive off the upright, but Macclesfield too could have scored in the closing stages with sub Matthew Tipton putting an eight-yard drive over the crossbar with the goal at his mercy.[LNB][LNB]
