Shrimpers won't lie down

Southend twice came from behind against a powerful Macclesfield side to earn a 2-2 draw and a first-round replay. Macclesfield took the lead in the eighth minute when Tyrone Barnett laid the ball into the path of strike partner Colin Daniel who hooked in a 10-yard volley. Barnett might have extended the home side's lead after 11 minutes but his glancing header hit the crossbar. The Shrimpers equalised after 32 minutes when Toto Nsiala tripped Sofi Zabooub and on-loan QPR forward Antonio German slotted home the penalty. Macc retook the lead two minutes after the break when Nathaniel Brown ghosted in at the far post to convert a Lewis Chalmers free-kick with a brave diving header. Barnett then set up sub Vinnie Mukendi but the youngster's shot was straight at Glenn Morris from the edge of the box. Southend were handed a soft equaliser in the 77th minute when the Town defence failed to clear a cross from Ryan Hall allowing fellow sub Barry Corr to poke home from eight yards.
