Vale keep up the pressure Promotion hunting Port Vale kept up the pressure on the top three with a 2-1 victory over Macclesfield. Macclesfield fielded a defensive formation in an attempt to frustrate Vale, but the plan was undone when they conceded the opening goal in the 28th minute. Vale left-back Kris Taylor delivered an in-swinging corner from the right and Sam Collins headed his second goal of the season at the far post. Kris Taylor then struck a post with a 20-yard free-kick and Sam Morsy had a shot cleared off the line as Vale threatened to overrun their ragged visitors. Nat Brown headed wide from a good position as Macclesfield attempted to hit back, but they were on the retreat again at the start of the second period. Adam Yates clattered a close-range shot against the underside of the crossbar and Marc Richards' follow up effort was blocked on the line. Vale had to wait until three minutes from time to net what proved the winner when substitute Louis Dodds curled in a 20-yard shot from man of the match Morsy's pass. Tyrone Barnett hooked in a close-range shot from Izak Reid's cross to net Macclesfield's consolation goal in the second minute of stoppage time.
