Under pressure from Yannick Bolaise in the 40th minute, he inadvertently redirected a John O'Flynn cross over keeper Jose Veiga and into the far corner. The Cheshire side had taken the lead in the 12th minute when on-loan 19-year-old striker Ricky Sappleton produced his second goal in two games with a stunning 22-yard drive to the far corner. Barnet were unlucky not to equalise in the 36th minute when Micah Hyde lashed a low 15-yard drive off the inside of the far post and across the goal line. In the second half Barnet's veteran striker Paul Furlong had the best chance for the visitors but could only send a weak header straight at Veiga after a pinpoint cross from Albert Jarrett. Macclesfield nearly stole all the points in the 81st minute when sub John Rooney, brother of England star Wayne, forced keeper Jake Cole to punch clear with a rising 20-yard drive from the edge of the box.
