McIlroy endures miserable return to Moss Rose

Macclesfield leapfrogged Morecambe thanks to an explosive first-half performance which led to a 2-0 victory. Former Macc boss Sammy McIlroy has now seen his Shrimps side take only three points from their last six games as they lurch nearer the drop zone. Macc might have scored in the 15th minute when Paul Bolland forced a low save from Barry Roche. But they opened the scoring with one of the goals of the season, Emile Sinclair playing a dead weight pass into the path of Matthew Hamshaw who powered a rising drive into the top corner. Four minutes later it was 2-0 as Chris McCready sent an Isak Reid cross into his own net from close range for the home side's second. After the break Macclesfield saw a possible third goal disallowed for offside when Tyrone Barnett curled an effort into the top corner. Morecambe enjoyed a late rally with Andrew Fleming heading onto the crossbar and sub Danny Carlton twice breaking free only to send tame finishes at keeper Jose Veiga.
