Charnock misses out for Silkmen

Macclesfield will be without Kieran Charnock for their FA Cup second-round replay against Barrow.

The loanee defender has returned to parent club Fleetwood to receive surgery on a knee problem, bringing his temporary stay with the Silkmen to an abrupt end.

Tony Diagne was handed a start in place of Charnock in the Boxing Day defeat at Southport, and is expected to keep his place.

Manager Steve King will also be without Andre Da Costa who remains sidelined with a fractured metatarsal.

Carl Martin and Waide Fairhurst returned to the starting line-up against the Sandgrounders, while Amari Morgan-Smith was recalled to the side for his first start since November 10.

Ryan Jackson, Matthew Barnes-Homer, and Chris Holroyd all started against the Bluebirds in the first game at Holker Street and may return to King's first XI.

The trio were dropped to the bench on Boxing Day but will be hoping for a cup recall.

Barrow manager Dave Bayliss is expected to name an unchanged squad.

With only 17 players to choose from over the festive period, Bayliss' options are limited.

The Bluebirds boss made no changes for the Boxing Day defeat to Gateshead, keeping faith with the side that earned a 1-1 draw against the Silkmen the week before.

Bayliss' team are bottom of the Blue Square Bet Premier table, without a league win in eight games, but the cup replay offers his side a welcome distraction.

Defender Neill Byrne will not be with the squad as the loanee has returned to parent club Rochdale.

The Cumbrian side lost 2-0 on their most recent visit to Moss Rose in August, with Barnes-Homer netting a brace.
