Clinical Macc romp past Dons

Rampant Macclesfield handed lacklustre AFC Wimbledon a footballing lesson as they romped to a convincing 4-0 victory at the Moss Rose.

The home side took the lead in the third minute when skipper Nat Brown nodded on a long throw from youngster Elliott Hewitt for local boy Shaun Brisley to half volley home from four yards.

Macc extended their lead after 24 minutes when Lewis Chalmers released Emile Sinclair down the right flank, who in turn lofted the ball for French winger Tony Diagne to head home from six yards.

Gary Simpson`s side tore the Dons apart in the second half, adding a third as soon as the 48th minute.

Diagne carved in from the left flank and sent Sinclair through and the striker used his pace before picking out the far corner from 10 yards.

Silkmen substitute Ben Tomlinson might have made it four-nil after 78 minutes when his 25-yard drive deflected off Brett Johnson only to cannon off the face of the crossbar.

But fellow sub Arnaud Mendy did put the icing on the cake in the 87th minute when he tackled the careless Jamie Stuart in midfield before honing in on goal and planting the ball in the far corner from 15 yards.
