Macclesfield 1-1 Barnet: Match Report

22 January 2011 17:39
Daniel rescues Silkmen Macclesfield were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw with Barnet in their tribute game to midfielder Richard Butcher, who died suddenly two weeks ago. A 70th-minute equaliser from Colin Daniel gave the Silkmen only their second point in six games after Izale McLeod had put the Bees in front from the penalty spot. After a pre-game tribute featuring a representative of all seven clubs Butcher had played for, Macclesfield should have taken control of the game. Striker Tyrone Barnett headed horribly wide from six yards in the fifth minute before Nat Brown skewed wide from just four yards out in the 21st minute. Barnet took advantage against the run of play after the break when McLeod had his heels clipped by Town skipper Paul Morgan. The striker picked himself up to stroke home the penalty for his sixth goal in eight starts. But Macclesfield salvaged a point with a 15-yard volley from Daniel that deflected over the helpless Liam O'Brien.
