Macclesfield boss Alexander, who suffered a brain aneurysm in November 2003, died at the age of 53 after arriving home on Tuesday night from the club's League Two match at Notts County.[LNB]Bevan said: "A position became available for another member to join the board of the LMA and, at a recent LMA board meeting, it was felt that Keith would be the outstanding person to ask. But sadly I didn't get chance to do that."[LNB]When asked why Alexander had been the leading contender, Bevan added: "A number of reasons. He was a very active member, he was also involved in projects the LMA were promoting, particularly community work and projects we were developing with the Prince's Trust.[LNB]"He was an excellent communicator. Our fellow members looked up to him. He has great experience as a manager and also he was, for a short while, director of football at Bury, so he understood that approach as well to the game.[LNB]"He had great experience with many clubs on doing them low budget and was also an excellent mentor, so I think all of those reasons are part of why the board were keen to see him join."[LNB]The club have opened a book of condolence in Alexander's memory, both in The Moss Rose's McIlroy Suite and online at their official website.[LNB][LNB]
