Brown predicts promotion challenge

Macclesfield midfielder Nat Brown sees no reason why his side cannot challenge at the right end of the table next season. The Silkmen have staved off the threat of relegation during a traumatic campaign which saw midfielder Richard Butcher pass away in January. Brown, whose side safeguarded their League Two status with a 4-2 win at Gillingham last weekend, is now looking up rather than down. "It was satisfying to reach safety, but we know we could have done better this season," said Brown. "Gillingham was a very good performance, but I'm not sure it was the best of the season as we have had a lot of good performances this year. "The Barnet game for example where we only gave them one shot all game, and that was a penalty, but they took a 1-1 draw despite us being all over them at times. If we can play like that but score that second goal then we can finish much higher in the table next season."
