Boro too good for Macc

Stevenage dismantled tired Macclesfield with a polished away performance in a 4-0 win to underline their promotion credentials. Boro moved into fourth place courtesy of two goals in either half as Macclesfield barely had an attack of any note all game. Mark Roberts opened the scoring in the 29th minute when he was first to react after Macc goalkeeper Jose Veiga could only parry a low cross from Darius Charles. Stevenage added a second goal five minutes later when Veiga juggled a deflection from Mat Brown underneath his crossbar, allowing Rob Sinclair to come through with a brave header while the ball was out of his control. Stevenage went further ahead two minutes after the break when Jon Ashton headed on a free-kick from John Mousinho for Roberts to head home his second at the far post. Macclesfield had an appeal for a penalty waved away when Brown appeared to be wrestled to the ground by Roberts, but Charles then waltzed through midfield and defence on a 50-yard run and when his shot was tipped away by Veiga, Sinclair fired home the rebound from eight yards for his second goal.
