Alexander hails Spireites result
Former Macclesfield striker Michael Gritton returned to haunt his former club, drilling home a low left-foot shot in the eighth minute.
But the Silkmen equalised in the 15th minute when Ahmed Deen's pinpoint cross was converted by 21-year-old Gareth Evans for his fourth goal of the season.
John Rooney almost put Macclesfield in the lead on the stroke of half-time, but his 25-yard thunderbolt came back off the underside of the crossbar.
A delighted Alexander said: "To pick up a point against a team at the top of the table who have spent all the money they have is a magnificent result.
"Irrespective of how the other teams have done around us we've got to take care of our own results and it was a great point and even more importantly for me a great performance."
