Alexander hails Silkmen character
First-half strikes from John Rooney and Gareth Evans secured the points which saw the Silkmen move 10 points clear of the drop zone.
Alexander said: "We needed this win because we knew it was always going to be tough.
"Chester had nothing to lose and in the end they were playing six up front so we had to show character to come through and that is a credit to the players.
"We are not mathematically safe and we are not happy about our position in the league but hopefully the players can learn from this and carry on next season from where we left off."
