Lyon v Bayern Munich - Match preview

Lyon controversially postponed their Ligue 1 match against Monaco on Saturday to give themselves more time to prepare for their crunch clash with Bayern Munich this evening.

Bayern battled to a 1-1 draw in a gruelling match with Borussia Monchengladbach over the weekend, and now have centre back pairing Martin Demichelis and Daniel van Buyten as doubts for tonight's semi-final second leg after both picked up knocks.

Meanwhile, Lyon frontman Lisandro Lopez has urged his team to be far more adventurous tonight than they managed last week at the Allianz Arena. Lyon must overturn a 1-0 deficit to knock Bayern out.

The first leg saw very few chances created by either side, but Lisandro was frustrated his team failed to capitalise on the absence of Bayern's creative playmaker Franck Ribery, who was sent off in the first half after a dangerous challenge on Lisandro himself.

Lisandro said: "The team must change its attitude, its mentality. We must now have a more positive mind set. We must change tactics if we are to progress."

Having succeeded in having his side's game postponed over the weekend, Lyon coach Claude Puel must now ensure his side stay sharp for their biggest game of the season.

Puel remains quietly confident. "The task now is to charge our batteries," he said.

"We've done the basic work, now it's about fine tuning."

Lyon are appearing in the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time, and if they progress, will be the first French side to appear in the final since Monaco in 2004, who succumbed to Jose Mourinho's FC Porto 3-0.

Ribery will miss the second leg as he serves a ban for his red card last week, but Bayern welcome back Mark van Bommel from suspension.

Lyon's Jeremy Toulalan was also dismissed last week and misses tonight's game. Brazilian centre back Cris is doubtful with a knee injury. Jean-Alain Boumsong looks set to take his place.
